you will need:

2 tbsp beeswax

6 oz grapeseed oil

6 oz breastmilk

few drops of vitamin e oil

few drops of lavender oil (optional)

*this recipe made three 4oz jars*

microwave (on the low setting) the beeswax and grapeseed oil by checking/stirring every 15 seconds until beeswax completely melts.  try to avoid letting it get too hot (stop and stir each time you see bubbles)

how to make:

pour in the (room temp) breastmilk, whisk until it thickens.

add a few drops of vitamin e oil, then add a couple drops of lavender (optional)

store in airtight container in the refrigerator.  you may want to sit out for a bit before each use.

keep up to three months.  note: freezing will change the texture.

even after donating, we still have plenty of milk stashed in the freezer.  holden has a few dry patches on his back (probably eczema?) and i have been meaning to try straight breastmilk on it as some call it ‘miracle lotion’ by itself… but then thought of making an actual body butter WITH breastmilk!

you may hear people refer to breastmilk as ’liquid gold’ and as it sounds cliche, there really are some incredible benefits to it- even more than sustaining babies lives!  why is breastmilk that great and what’s exactly IN it??

proteins:  60-80% of all protein in human milk is whey protein

fats:  fatty acids are needed for the development of the brain, retina, and nervous system

vitamins:  the more vitamins i consume, the more vitamins are present in my milk.  i currently take a postnatal vitamin to support milk production!

carbs:  main one is lactose, 40% of calories.

while the breastmilk is amazing alone, adding it to the other ingredients just adds a bonus as they’re all SO goof for your skin.   a benefit of a cream/body butter is that it goes further and is easier to handle vs straight breastmilk.  plus, you can even gift to a friend!

the measurements above do not have to be exact.  for reference, this recipe made three 4 oz jars.  the main thing to know is you want roughly equal parts of grapeseed oil and breastmilk.  if you cut this recipe in half, you would simply use half the beeswax (so just 1 tbsp)

tonight i used the lotion on the little ones and its SO SOFT! hopefully it helps clear up holden’s dry spots, but the texture is heavenly. if you have some breastmilk to spare, i highly recommend this fun and easy DIY! let me know if you make some 🙂
